About Darvenor Drive

Who we are

Darvenor Drive is a small hire company in Salford with one car on the books and a reserve behind it. We deliver and collect across Greater Manchester inside the M60, which means there is no depot, no counter and nothing for you to travel to.

A fair share of our work is people deciding whether to buy a Moskvich 5 and wanting longer than a test drive to think about it. That shaped how we price — the monthly rate is deliberately close to what running your own would cost — and how we write.

Why we publish what we publish

We would rather lose a booking than oversell the car. That is why our page on whether the Moskvich 5 is worth buying spends as long on the arguments against as for, and why we say plainly who should walk away.

It is also why two numbers are missing from this site. Boot capacity and real-world fuel consumption are quoted everywhere for this car and the figures disagree with each other. We have not verified either against the manufacturer's documentation, so we do not print them. Everything else in our specification table is something we are confident in.

Why the car's condition matters more here

If somebody is hiring to decide whether to buy, a badly kept example teaches them the wrong lesson. A worn set of tyres reads as poor grip, a neglected gearbox reads as a design flaw, and the customer walks away with a false impression of the model rather than an accurate one of our car.

So the maintenance is not really a service promise, it is a condition of the thing being useful at all: servicing at the manufacturer's interval with one garage that has had the car since the start, transmission fluid strictly on schedule, and consumables replaced before they start misrepresenting how the car drives.

How we quote

The full figure goes to you in writing before you commit, with insurance, breakdown cover, delivery and mileage inside it. Nothing is added at the keys. If the dates are taken, we tell you they are taken. Ask us about yours.
